Trunk or Treat – what fun at our church yesterday afternoon!
Several families decorated their cars so creatively and happily passed out candies.
Many families came with children dressed up in great costumes including real life first responder heroes, superheroes, Disney characters, Harry Potter characters, scary characters, and some characters I didn’t recognize.
Father Mike and Father Riz came, and the Knights of Columbus BBQed hotdogs and hamburgers for all. Jessica and the youth hosted fun games in the Youth Center, made sure the cars in Trunk or Treat never ran out of candies, and ended the fun with a costume contest.
We were a community of people, together having good, family fun!
Earlier in the day I had witnessed people yelling at a person who had different political views.
It made my heart sad.
I wondered how we got to the point that some think it’s OK to be mean and yell at another because of differing views.
Experiencing the simple joy of Trunk or Treat was a blessing.
I just read this coming Sunday’s Gospel reading and God reminded me of something cool to remember right now…
"Which is the first of all the commandments?"
Jesus replied, "The first is this: Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone!
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these."
Mark 12:28b-31
If we all can remember to love God, each other, and ourselves…just imagine if we all did this!
Be blessed through your love!
