Saint Patrick’s Day blessings to you!
Sunday I excitedly shared shamrock stickers with kids at our Elementary Faith Formation Sessions.
I told the families how Saint Patrick wanted to tell people of Ireland about God and His love for them, and how he used the shamrock.
There is one God in the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Look at the shamrock. There are three heart shaped leaves. God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit who love you are represented.
How cool is it that God reveals who He is and His love for us in so many ways, including the shamrock!
And with incredible courage Saint Patrick told the stories of God and our faith to the people of Ireland, converting them all.
In this coming Sunday’s first reading we hear a familiar story of another man who bravely did God’s will, Moses.
God talks to Moses from a burning bush – actually, a bush on fire but that doesn’t burn.
After God tells him what He wants him to do, Moses asks God what His name is. Look at God’s answer:
God replied, “I am who am.” Then he added, “This is what you shall tell the Israelites: I AM sent me to you.” Exodus 3:14
We have incredibly inspirational people in the history of our faith, like Moses and other women and men in the Bible, and like Saint Patrick and all the other saints. The stories of these people help us to know God and of His mercy and love for us.
During this second week of Lent, look and listen for God, who said He is I AM, who is always trying to connect with us.
A three-leaf clover?
The words of a song?
Apologizing to someone or accepting an apology?
I AM is trying to connect with us always.
This is a link to a song called “I Am” that I want to share with you…it’s one of my favorites! Right click on it to open in a new tab.
