This morning I went to a funeral.
After praying the Rosary and before the funeral Mass began, a eulogy was given about the person. Many memories were shared about how she made everyone feel like they were the most important person to her. When a boy who had been a bully for some time was in a fist fight, she got in the middle of it and held the boy until he settled down. That hug of care and love helped begin the boy’s transformation.
In the photos of her I could see love and kindness in her eyes and smile.
During the homily the priest talked about how we are all temples of the Holy Spirit and we are all made in the image of God.
Through the life we were remembering and celebrating people felt and recognized the love of Jesus – I did sitting at her funeral.
The two disciples recounted what had taken place on the way, and how Jesus was made known to them in the breaking of bread. Luke 24:35
I thought of that verse from this coming Sunday’s Gospel reading at the funeral this morning.
Thousands of years later disciples of Jesus were sharing about what had taken place in the person’s life who died. She loved Jesus and lived in a way that not only did people know that, but they felt Jesus’ love through her.
In the Gospel reading the disciples recognize Jesus after His resurrection when He breaks bread, gives thanks, and gives it to them.
Now it’s up to us to enable people to recognize the risen Jesus.
Walking away from the funeral this morning, I wondered if people can see love and kindness in my eyes and smile. When it’s time for someone to give a eulogy about me at my funeral, will it be said that my love for Jesus shined from me, enabling others to feel His love for them?
Be an Easter Season blessing!
