First Class Relics – a piece of the body of a saint.
It’s tough to wrap my brain around this.
This past Saturday here at Saint Peter Claver I sat at a Relic Enshrinement Mass.
First Class Relics of Saint Peter Claver, Saint Maximilian Kolbe, and Saint Faustina Kowalska were blessed and enshrined in the Children’s Liturgy Room of our church.
Bishop Slawomir talked in his homily at the Mass about being holy.
Each of those saints were holy people.
We are called to be holy people. The bishop described holy people.
I was sitting between a long-time friend who is also one of our Catechists and one of the people who worked to bring the First Class Relics to our parish and is also one of our Catechists.
As the bishop talked about holy people, I felt so blessed to be sitting between two people I see holiness in.
Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, "You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me." Mark 10:21
In this coming Sunday’s Gospel reading a young man asks Jesus what he needs to do to have eternal life. That verse above is Jesus’ answer.
First, Jesus looked at him and loved him.
Then Jesus told him that he needs to let everything go and give to the poor.
I believe that isn’t just about money and material things. It’s about surrendering to God’s will and acting on it.
The two people I sat between at that Mass do that all the time.
As I stood in front of the Relics, I asked those saints to pray for me and all of you as we strive to surrender ourselves to God and live holy lives.
Be Blessed Through Surrendering to God!
