Happy New Year!
No, I’m not confused, thinking it’s January 2nd. Yesterday was the first Sunday of Advent, which begins the Liturgical New Year. We begin again the stories of our faith, the stories of God and His love for us.
So, what’s your spiritual new year’s resolution at the beginning of this new Liturgical Year?
At my First Reconciliation, Year 1 Session yesterday, I asked the families to tell me how they will love God.
Some children said they would pray, spend time talking with God.
Others said they wanted to go to Mass more. (Remember they need you parents/guardians to do that because the kids can’t drive.)
An adult said they would love God by helping others.
It’s a good question to ask ourselves as Advent begins and we celebrate a new Liturgical Year – how will you love God?
What’s your new Liturgical Year’s resolution?
In this coming Sunday’s Second Reading Saint Paul shows us that our love relationship with God is not one sided.
I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6
God has loved us since before we were born.
He began the good work of love in our lives from day one and continues that work of love within us until the end of our lives.
Read part of Saint Paul’s prayer for us that the Second Reading ends with:
And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value, so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ… Philippians 1:9-10
It’s the season of Advent.
Let’s start it by making a commitment of growing in our love with God, not just until Christmas, but throughout this new Liturgical Year.
New Liturgical Year blessings to you!
